Description
The Church of La Paloma is the popular name given to the parish of San Pedro El Real, a Catholic church located in the Spanish city of Madrid, in the Rue of La Paloma. It is part of the religious celebrations of the city: Verbena de la Paloma.
The construction began in the late 19th century and it is a picture of Our Lady of Solitude , known as Virgen de la Paloma.
The present church stands on the site of the original chapel built in the late 18th century. It was demolished in 1896 and replaced by a larger building, built in neomudéjar style with some Gothic Revival elements. It opened on March 23, 1912.
Architect Lorenzo Álvarez Capra build this church, and drew a Latin cross, with two aisles and a central, chaired by the altar (where the painting of the Virgin of La Paloma is located) should be.
Its main facade consists of a central body with a gateway, whose sides rise twin towers. The materials used are red brick and stone.
