Description

The Cervantes Institute is a Spanish non-profit public agency, which was created March 21, 1991 by the Government of Spain, with the patronage of Their Majesties, under the administration of President Felipe González and dependent on his Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Its two main objectives are the promotion and teaching of Spanish language and the dissemination of the culture of Spain and Latin America. The Cervantes Institute is named after the author Miguel de Cervantes.

It has two head offices that are located in the Community of Madrid: the operational headquarters is in the Calle de Alcala, 49, of Madrid, in the building "Cervantes", formerly known as the building 'of the Caryatids "and former home Central Bank, designed in 1918 by architects Antonio Palacios and Joaquín Otamendi for Spanish Banco Rio de la Plata, and the second site, which is used as a training center for teachers, is in King's College, on the street booksellers, 23, Alcala de Henares, birthplace of Cervantes.
